Modeling Stairs in 3DsMax
Modeling Stairs in 3DsMax
The subject of this article will be stairs. They come in different designs and materials. To model such a part of the scene, you need to have an idea of what elements it consists of.
Such an imposing structure as a staircase looks intimidating, especially if you're new to modeling. Luckily, 3ds Max already provides 4 types of stairs, each of which we'll break down below.
If you click on the plus sign (Create) on the toolbar to the right, you'll find the word Stairs in the Geometry tab. This is the tool we will work with.
Choose a straight type of stairs. You will see at once a huge number of different switches and sliders. Do not be intimidated, their purpose is clear and allows you to configure each part of the stairs very flexibly.
The L-shaped staircase is a kind of straight staircase with a twist to any side. Its distinctive feature is an additional bay at the place of turn. You can adjust the angle of the span with the Angle parameter (-90° to 90°).
U-shaped stairs are two parallel identical bays that are connected by a platform. In fact, it is two straight stairs with a turn of 180 degrees. The length of the platform can be adjusted using the Offset parameter.
Spiral staircase is different in that the steps are arranged around a central axis. This type of stairs has a lot of settings, and to achieve realism, it is necessary to use the maximum available to us functionality.
Modeling handrails and balusters
Also in 3ds Max there is a quick and most convenient way to create handrails. Element, which will allow us to do it, you can also find in the Geometry tab. To begin, we find the line AEC Extended and select the object Railing.
On the example of a spiral staircase, let's see how to create a railing with Railing. First of all, in the settings of the staircase itself we put a tick in the Rail Path section, and then we throw the Railing object on the automatically created spline, and it only remains for us to adjust its parameters.
