The Snaps tool in 3ds Max
The Snaps tool in 3ds Max is used to snap and align 3D objects to each other. There are only three types of snaps.
1. 2D snap - this type is applicable for objects that are in the same plane. In practice, this type of georeference is almost never used.
2. 2.5D - this type may be called a "smart" snap. It can align objects that are in different planes. It should be used STRICTLY in planar projections: top, bottom, right, left, etc. It is not used in perspective projection.
3. 3D Snap - should be used ONLY in perspective and orthogonal views.
The Snaps Toggle tool is in the main menu. Before you start, you can set it up as follows:
A) Right-click on the snap icon and in the Snaps tab and check the boxes next to the parts of the objects you want to snap to. Usually this is the Vertex. You can also check the Midpoint or Gird Points.
B) Now go to the Options tab and make sure that "Enable Axis Constraints" is checked, it is responsible for the alignment function of the object.
