How to make a normal map from a texture in Photoshop?
First, let's select the texture you need and drop it into Photoshop.
In the top menu click Filter → 3D → create normal map.
If you want, you can change the view of the object on which the normal map will be displayed:
You can also twist, rotate and move this object as you want:
For better display of the map, you can choose different types of lighting. The default setting is daylight, which is the most commonly used:
Depending on whether the height inversion is checked or not, the extrusion will change (works the same way as inverting black and white in max):
Blur and scale details affect how clear the extrusion will be:
The three sliders in the "Contrast Data" settings will help you adjust more precisely the clarity and contrast of the map itself.
Our map is ready! The only thing left to do is save it. It is best to save it in JPEG format.
