How to customize the texture scale in UVW Map

In this article we will talk about how to properly scale UVW Map using brick textures as an example. Why with bricks?

Because quite often newbies make a texture and apply it to an object and forget about the actual size of the material. This is such a "scale problem" with beginners. It turns out that our wall consists of either very small bricks or huge boulders.

You should not do it that way!

Open our texture and count the bricks. The width is 4 bricks and the height is 11.

We know that the length of a brick is 250 mm So 250 mm multiplied by 4 bricks. That makes 1000. This figure is write it in the fields Length and Width.

We go on. Calculate the height: 80 mm (assumed height of one brick) multiplied by 11 bricks, we have 880. Let's round this figure to 900 and write it in Height.

Now we have an adequate size of a brick in relation to the wall. That is how this problem is solved in a simple way. Be sure to keep an eye on the corners so there are no unsightly "undercuts" on them. If necessary, you can expand the modifier and Gizmo move the texture.

Also, don't forget to chamfer the sharp corners!

By the way, it works the same way with laminate. We need to count how many dies there are in a particular texture.

In this case 27, the average width of a die is 120 mm So 20 multiplied by 120 will be 3240.

Let's look at the resolution, our texture is 1024 by 1024.

So we set the Length to 3240 and leave the height as it is, 1024.

That's all!

May your renders be beautiful!
